Hon Khoi is about 10km northeast of Ninh Hoa town, with endless salt fields attracting tourists, photographers as well as young people to come here to explore and take pictures. Let’s explore with An Nam Tour why this place is so attractive.
Where is it?
Located about 10 kilometers northeast of Ninh Hoa town, Hon Khoi, a place name in Ninh Hoa district, is vaguely thought of as very far away in the hearts of many Ninh Hoa people.
According to the ancients, the place name Hon Khoi dates back to the 18th century. At that time, the remnants of the Ming Dynasty in China refused to submit to the Qing Dynasty, so they used ships to go south to find land to live. Some people had power, wealth, and large ships, so they settled in the South, such as Mac Cuu who founded Ha Tien. A few poor people wandered the sea for a long time and became pirates. Occasionally, they went to the islands to plunder food. At that time, the Nguyen Dynasty ordered the locality that whenever Chinese pirates came to plunder, the villagers would light a fire on the top of the mountain, making the smoke rise high, so that the local authorities would know and promptly send soldiers to rescue them. Is that why this land was named HON KHOI?

The attraction of salt fields
The attraction of salt fields

Hon Khoi in Nha Trang has many beautiful landscapes, not only famous for its salt fields but Hon Khoi also has a most famous tourist destination, Doc Let, Doc Let is an extremely beautiful and poetic beach, the beach is white and smooth, the sea water is emerald green to the bottom. Coming here, visitors can witness a day of work of salt workers in the salt fields. Before the rooster crows, these salt workers have to go to the field to start a day of working with salt.

The special thing is that the main laborers in the salt fields here are all women. With just a pair of bamboo poles, they can start their salt carrying job.
When the sun rises above their heads, the pile of salt gets higher and higher, they have to carry it to the top, making the already tiring work even more difficult.
When the sun is hot, it is also the time when they finish their hard work with drops of sweat that taste like the sea. This boring, hard work cycle continues to repeat itself day after day in their life.
Today, this profession is still maintained, creating the Ninh Hoa salt brand. The salt making season starts from January to July of the solar calendar. However, to harvest large, flavorful and firm white salt grains, the best time is from April to June on sunny days. Salt making hours are usually in 2 sessions: early morning (from 4 – 8am) and late afternoon (from 3:30pm – 6pm).
Ideal photo spot for those who love taking photos and virtual life. Sharing an experience for you to have beautiful photos, you should go early in the morning at dawn on a sunny day. Usually, only then are salt workers working, so you can take beautiful photos as you wish.
